Quest to Read Them All – City of Ashes

In my ongoing Quest to Read Them All I love coming to books that make me excited to continue on with a series or find other works the author has written.  This week’s book did just that…  I read the 2nd book in Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments Series, City of Ashes.

I read and wrote about the first book in the series a while back, but this is the book that got me completely hooked.  I love the secondary characters!  They are absolutely Cassandra Clare’s strong suit.  The reality of the relationships between Magnus and Alec, Simon and Maia, Luke and Clary, Jace and Alec, Alec and Isabelle…  oh, who am I kidding everyone has a truly authentic relationship. The second installment in the series has drawn me further into the lives of these characters.  I look forward to watching Alec deal with his feelings for Jace, facing his family, handling his growing relationship with Magnus.  I’m also intrigued by the sibling dynamic between Jace, Alec and Isabelle, as well as Simon and Clary.  The 3rd book is going to bring us to Alicante, the fictional homeland of the Shadowhunters.  I was an avid Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan and these books give me a similar feeling.  Ms. Clare has created an entirely separate reality built neatly into the confines of our modern world.  I cannot wait to read the 3rd book, City of Glass.  I’m also looking forward to learning more about the world of the Shadowhunters in Clare’s other series (The Infernal Devices and The Dark Artifices).
